New Music Venue in Hickory

Wow! You need to check out the new music venue in Hickory called Main Cellar- City Club. This place is crazy nice! We've played multiple shows in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Wilmington, Mooresville, Johnson City etc. and this place takes the cake. It has the best sound, atmosphere, and stage I've ever played. The club is having open mic night every Thursday, which is great because local bands get to meet each other and music fans can see multiple bands in one night. Can't wait for next Thursday!

Greetings, fellow musical beings.

Thomas here. Things have been getting crazy here in the studio and the band really is keeping busy here. We've been recording at a pretty steady clip and I am proud to say that we are working on a full length album! This disc will probably include tracks from the "30,000 Feet" ep as well as a variety of new, fresh, and very tasty material from our very own studio.

Also, many thanks to our fans who continue to support us by coming out to shows, purchasing our music, or even to those who liked or watch our pages.

Have to get back to work on this new music. As always, take care- and try to stay warm! Summer is starting to wane, and so are the temperatures!

Gigs This Weekend

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This just in......Leaving Venus will be performing two shows this weekend! We will be performing in Raleigh Friday night at Deep South the Bar at 9:30pm. We will be opening for Young Cardinals...these guys are awesome. If you're going to be in Raleigh you should definitely come check this one out!

Also, we will be performing at Copperbean Coffee in Hickory on Saturday at 8pm. This will be our first performance at Copperbean and we hope to bring out a good crowd so make sure to join us! This is not an acoustic gig so if you would like to dance, enjoy some adult beverages and rock out you should make sure to be there.

SUP FOLKZ?! The band is def kickin out some more songs in the STUDIO. We got some footage of a recording session of the DRUMZ recently!!! Stay tuned for the release of that. Did our first flyer run round town! Went pretty smooth and didn't get ran off by anybody. SUCCESS. YAY! HAHA.

Van TIME. Leaving Venus is after a VAN. Thats RIGHT!

We are lookin for a van with more room to FLY our GEAR and our BUTTS in to gigs coming up... so if ya out there and you know any good deals hit us up! Kinda weird 2 put that in a blog but hey its SPACE KID and plus ya never know.

Alright we have some SWEET GIGS Comin UP! We will play this Sat SEPT 3rd a House Party and the same night we will ZOOM ova 2 the IRON Thunder Saloon 9:30pm-12:30am so come out to the Iron Thunder to hear a AWESOME band....LEAVING VENUS!!!!!!!!

And Remember....ROCK n ROLL through the GOOD TIMES and BAD! (messed up my guitar SOLO recently and thats my recent BAD HAHA...the band and I had a good laugh along with the SOUND guys cause I kept sayin I ripped when I really didn't. ROCK N ROLL ;)

Bringing Music to Downtown Hickory

Not sure if you got a chance to see us at Minetta Lane Center for Arts and Peace last month but it was a really fun show....probably the most fun we have had playing out! The sound was awesome, the crowd was receptive, and our opening act, Jamie McDonald, was great!

Minetta Lane is an art / music venue in downtown Hickory (beside Larry's Musical Madness and the Hickory Community Theatre). The venue was as excited about the show's success as we were, so they have given us an opportunity to setup a consistent monthly show to help promote original music in the Hickory area. Right now the tentative schedule will be every second Saturday of the month at 8pm. Leaving Venus will host the evening and invite one band to share the show. We will focus on bringing in the best local and regional acts to Hickory!

Our first show is scheduled for Saturday September 10th which is only a few weeks away. We're hoping to generate a nice buzz by promoting with flyers, newspaper, and social media so look for details as we get closer to the date.

If you're like me and wish there was more of a music scene in the Hickory area make sure to help us spread the word. We're looking forward to working with the center and bringing some great music to Downtown Hickory!

The band is Def getting more gigs and we as a group are thankful 4 every opportunity 2 pick on a GuitaR, Play BaS, & Lightly carefully gracefully haha STRIKE a DRUM! Our LasT Show we had a Awesome Performance & Crowd 2 ROCK 2!!! On Top of that our latest Cd Album 30 Thousand Feet SOLD OUT!!!! So instead of a series, we will group together the remaining video footage into one video and post it up as soon as we can get it produced. Hello Folks.

I have some news from the studio- we're done tracking drums, bass, guitars, and vocals... All we really need to do now is figure out if we want anything else on the EP and mix it. Its really been a great experience so far... We're also recording some videos to put up on our youtube, so you can kinda get a behind-the-scenes look at what's going on with the sessions... As far as the band itself, I'm really interested in seeing the direction we all take now, and really hopeful about our sound being received well... Also excited for the shows we've been booking up and loving the adventures associated with them.

Today's gonna be my day off for mixing, and I'll get back to work on it tomorrow.

The Show Must Go On

Sometimes things work and sometimes they don’t....Sometimes there are conflicts of interest and views that cannot be agreed upon. This happens all too often in music groups / bands. I think it’s because musicians who really love music are passionate about what it means to them and only want the best for their creation.

You’re probably wondering what I’m rambling about…..I wanted to write this blog to let everyone know that Leaving Venus has changed over the past month. The band lost a member but will continue to create music. It’s hard to see a band mate go after years of hard work, creativity, and friendship but all things must come to an end.

Moving forward Leaving Venus will be a rock trio consisting of Thomas Grell, Michael Miller, and Chris Cornwell. We look forward to bringing a fresh outlook to our music, live shows, and promotions. Stay tuned for things to come……

Original Music in Hickory?

Can it be done? Will the masses of Hickory, NC converge for a special original music event?

The masses may not converge, but I do believe there is a definite niche in our area that would love to hear some new music. I don't know if anyone knows this or not, but it is quite a struggle to play original music in Hickory. Almost all of the bar owners, and Hickory Alive are determined to only let bands that play southern rock, or 80's rock covers grace their stages. There's nothing wrong with 80's rock or southern rock cover bands I just feel like there is a void in our hometown for original indie rock n' roll. I'm hoping about 75 souls feel the same way as I do and help pack out the Firemen's Kitchen Stage in the Hickory Community Theatre. I've looked for months to find a venue that will allow Leaving Venus to setup all original music shows with out of town acts, and we finally have been given an opportunity thanks to the Hickory Community Theatre! We will be sharing the stage with Uncle Mountain out of Asheville, NC.....I'm super excited to share a show with these guys. We need your support to get this thing off of the ground so if you can come out to the show that would be great!...if not please help spread the word!

How many people out there would like to have a place to watch new original bands in Hickory?
